Employee Testimonials

The most common thread among current and former Auth0 employees is pride in the product. People genuinely feel like they're solving real problems for developers. One senior engineer called it a "product-first place" where technical ownership actually matters. Newer hires usually praise the onboarding and team support, while long-timers tend to vent about the Okta acquisition. That shift brought more approval steps and less autonomy for certain teams.

Company Culture

Auth0 leans heavily into being developer-centric. People are friendly, willing to pair on problems, and care a lot about engineering excellence. But the culture is in transition. After becoming part of Okta, the startup vibe gave way to enterprise-level processes. The camaraderie is still there, but it's mixed with the inevitable growing pains of a massive corporate integration.

Work-Life Balance

For most roles, the balance is healthy. Parents and remote workers usually appreciate the flexible hours and understanding managers. That said, your experience will depend heavily on your team. Customer-facing roles and product launches can demand late nights, and incident responses will obviously pull you in on weekends.

Job Security

Core engineering and security roles are generally safe because the product is central to the business. However, the Okta acquisition brought the usual organizational shuffles. Some teams have been restructured, and redundant roles were consolidated. If you're interviewing, ask directly about your prospective team's roadmap and strategic importance.

Leadership and Management

Historically, Auth0’s founders and execs were deeply technical and pitched a clear vision. Post-acquisition, leadership communication shifted to fit a massive corporate structure. Some employees like the predictability; others just see added bureaucracy.

Manager Reviews

Experiences lean positive. The good managers here are pragmatic, technically sharp, and actually treat career development as part of their job. The bad ones struggle with inconsistent feedback and clam up during reorgs. Like anywhere, your day-to-day happiness is heavily tied to whoever you report to.

Learning & Development

You'll learn a lot about authentication, scaling, and security just by doing the work. The company historically paid for conferences and training, and the Okta merger actually expanded access to internal resources. Peer code review and informal mentorship are standard, which helps newer engineers get up to speed fast.

Opportunities for Promotions

The paths are pretty standard for tech. You need visible impact and a manager willing to advocate for you. When Okta took over, they realigned Auth0's career ladders to match the parent company. This made the requirements clearer, but slowed down the actual timeline for some people.

Salary Ranges

Base pay is competitive. In the US, software engineers usually see $120k–$200k base, while senior and staff engineers pull $160k–$240k+. Product and design roles sit in similar brackets. Total comp gets a nice bump from RSUs, particularly if you're in a high-cost-of-living area.

Bonuses & Incentives

Okta standardized the equity incentives (RSUs) across the board. Performance and spot bonuses exist, but they heavily depend on your specific role and how the company is doing that quarter. Don't expect massive cash bonuses by default.

Health and Insurance Benefits

The health, dental, and vision plans are standard for big tech, with decent employer contributions. They also offer wellness stipends and mental health resources. The parental leave policies are a frequent highlight among employees.

Employee Engagement and Events

They run the usual tech talks, hackathons, and virtual happy hours. Because the team is so distributed, they put genuine effort into remote-friendly events and employee resource groups to keep people connected.

Remote Work Support

Remote work is baked in. Many teams are fully distributed, meaning the async tooling and documentation are actually good. You can usually start fully remote, with occasional in-person meetups for team bonding.

Average Working Hours

Expect a standard 40-hour week. That might stretch to 45 or 50 during a major launch or an active incident. Teams are usually good about respecting time zones and avoiding late meetings.

Attrition Rate & Layoff History

Churn has been moderate. The Okta integration inevitably led to some role consolidation and people leaving, but the core engineering teams mostly stayed intact.

Overall Company Rating

Rating: 4.1/5 Auth0 is a solid choice if you want to work on identity infrastructure at a place that genuinely cares about developer experience. The pay is competitive, the benefits are good, and you'll learn a lot. Just go in knowing that the scrappy startup days are over—you are joining Okta, with all the enterprise structure and processes that entails.

EngineeringFull-timeRemote
August 15, 2025

What I liked

Supportive engineering culture, strong emphasis on security and quality, flexible remote policy, and excellent mentorship. Auth0 invests in developer tools and growth—I've learned a lot about identity and scalable systems.

Areas for improvement

Onboarding can feel tool-heavy at first and there are occasional cross-timezone meetings that make coordination tricky.

What I liked

Auth0 has a well-known brand in identity which makes sales conversations easier. Good commission structure, flexible hours for client meetings, and supportive colleagues across regions.

Areas for improvement

Quota pressure can be intense some quarters and internal sales tools/processes could be smoother. More structured enablement would help newer reps.

What I liked

Great product-market fit and lots of exposure to customers, which helped me grow professionally. Team was friendly and collaborative; managers were open to feedback.

Areas for improvement

Salary growth was slower than expected and there were long hours during major incidents. The acquisition period led to process changes that were a bit chaotic at times.
