Senior Backend Engineer Review

EngineeringFull-timeHybrid
Aug 10, 2025

What I liked

Really enjoy working on the product — we build core backend services for Simple Energy scooters and the BMS/cloud integration. The engineering team is talented and managers are hands-on. Hybrid setup works well, and there are good learning opportunities (embedded-to-cloud exposure). ESOPs and the mission-driven culture are definite pluses.

Areas for improvement

Compensation lagged a bit behind market for my experience level, and release weeks can be long with late-night bug fixes. Some internal processes are still maturing which can slow things down.

What I liked

Simple Energy has a clear mission in the EV space and a product that resonates with customers. I learned a lot about EV sales cycles, dealer relationships, and customer operations. Colleagues are passionate and willing to help, which made onboarding fast.

Areas for improvement

High pressure on targets at times and an evolving compensation plan that was confusing. Career progression and promotions felt uneven. For a company scaling quickly, some processes (CRM, reporting) needed better standardization.
